I just got trolled on Twitter for the first time. Over what you may ask? A purse. Yes you heard me.
We will be attending the Advancing Women in Agriculture Conference in Calgary next week. We are setting up a booth so we decided to give a real nice giveaway. I was originally thinking really nice model tractor, then Jen came up with the idea to do a designer purse since not all attendees will be farmers. She also said it’s a great treat that most women wouldn’t buy themselves. I completely agreed and still agree.
I posted a video today on social media announcing the contest and showing the purse. I got trolled by a “real farm woman” who was highly offended. Over a series of tweets she proceeded to tell me that she was offended, she listed a whole list of better farm prizes (semen packages, AI services and onwards) and then wrapped it up to tell me, get this…
….,,you won’t get feedback from all of the farm women who, like me, have fought hard and continue to fight to be taken seriously in this industry. Stuff like this sets us back as a gender.
Like the class act I try to be, I thanked her for her feedback and said that I would see what the women at the event had to say. What I really wanted to say was…what set us back as a gender to when? A time when we used purses? Wait a minute…we still do. She just finished talking about hers ? Yes, I know…I am conpletely missing the point.
Ridiculous. That being said, from the strength of her rant and things she said, I imagine she has a heavy load she is carrying. Water off a ducks back. I am a farmer, a business owner (that has all females) and a female myself. I trust my intentions and I trust giving some lucky woman a Michael Kors bag will not set us back to the dark ages. Poor gal. Peace be with her!
Reminds me of this quote below that I seen and saved the other day. Turns out, it’s perfect for this situation.
Your Uplifting Woman Friend,
Tracy
