Day 64: Trolled

March 5, 2019 by Tracy 11,560 Comments

I just got trolled on Twitter for the first time. Over what you may ask? A purse. Yes you heard me.

We will be attending the Advancing Women in Agriculture Conference in Calgary next week. We are setting up a booth so we decided to give a real nice giveaway. I was originally thinking really nice model tractor, then Jen came up with the idea to do a designer purse since not all attendees will be farmers. She also said it’s a great treat that most women wouldn’t buy themselves. I completely agreed and still agree.

I posted a video today on social media announcing the contest and showing the purse. I got trolled by a “real farm woman” who was highly offended. Over a series of tweets she proceeded to tell me that she was offended, she listed a whole list of better farm prizes (semen packages, AI services and onwards) and then wrapped it up to tell me, get this…

….,,you won’t get feedback from all of the farm women who, like me, have fought hard and continue to fight to be taken seriously in this industry. Stuff like this sets us back as a gender.

Like the class act I try to be, I thanked her for her feedback and said that I would see what the women at the event had to say. What I really wanted to say was…what set us back as a gender to when? A time when we used purses? Wait a minute…we still do. She just finished talking about hers ? Yes, I know…I am conpletely missing the point.

Ridiculous. That being said, from the strength of her rant and things she said, I imagine she has a heavy load she is carrying. Water off a ducks back. I am a farmer, a business owner (that has all females) and a female myself. I trust my intentions and I trust giving some lucky woman a Michael Kors bag will not set us back to the dark ages. Poor gal. Peace be with her!

Reminds me of this quote below that I seen and saved the other day. Turns out, it’s perfect for this situation.

Your Uplifting Woman Friend,

Tracy

Day 49: Spring Countdown…29 Days

February 19, 2019 by Tracy 5,750 Comments

For those of us farmers, and non farmers alike, that are getting antsy and yearning for greenery….it is only 29 days till spring. We are on the home stretch now!

Every season is exciting in agriculture.  As trade show season rolls along, new livestock are being born and everyone anxiously awaits for when the snow begins to melt away. With each passing day, the days get brighter and the sun stays longer. Another spring means another fresh start. Our hopes are renewed and our excitement is high. It’s an exciting time of the year!

It’s the time of year that everyone works so hard for. Everyone from the people that make the products that farmers use, advertise the product, sell the product, transport the product, apply the products, inspect the crops, insure the commodities, market the commodities, transport the finished products, process and finish the product, and lastly, to the farmers who work tirelessly from start to end, in order to feed the World.

Indeed, it’s always a great season in Agriculture.

I wanted to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and bountiful #farming2019 year!

Your Spring Fever Friend,

Tracy

Day 43: Crop Connect & Rick Mercer

February 14, 2019 by Tracy 10,474 Comments

Great day of learning happening at #CropConnect19 with a wide variety of topics being covered including tech, data, farm financials, protecting your land & more.

It has been so neat to meet many of my social media friends in real life for the first time and see so many others again. I love the agriculture industry.

A great day turned into an amazing evening with a keynote by Rick Mercer.

Rick Mercer is in the house ?? at #CropConnect19 After long flight delays in Toronto @rickmercer has finally arrived in Winnipeg. He is in full form and started off with a good ole rant about Toronto and their tendency to panic over snowflakes  ? #herewego #greatnight #AgTwitter

What a great evening!

Tracy

Happy Canadian Ag Day ???❤️ So proud to farm and work in the industry I love.

As Thomas Jefferson says… “Agriculture is our wisest pursuit, because it will in the end contribute most to real wealth, good morals, and happiness.”
